I love you Bubbe!!! this series is absolute genius.

I love you Bubbe!!! this series is absolute genius. I found you some months ago while searching for a good matzoh ball soup recipe. I ended up having to quadruple the portions, given the number of guests, plus I wanted to reduce everything down to intensify the flavors. we had it with a gorgeous pastrami a friend brought back from the deli in his old neighborhood in long island — steamed it for about four or five hours and served it on slices of freshly baked rye that our baker friend made just for the occasion. utter, utter bliss.

thank you so much for this series, A & B! it goes straight to the best things in the world for me: family, tradition, comfort food, laughter, sharing. I cook for a living, and let me tell you, I wish it could always be like this.

I am a grade nine student at Jewish high school.

July 3rd, 2008 · No Comments · Emails

Dear Bubbe,

My name is Matthew, or Mayer, and I am a grade nine student at Jewish high school. I previously studied Yiddish for 7 years at an elementary school and I have a strong love for the language and the culture. I started a Yiddish club at the high school and we look at different songs and films and stories. I came across your cooking show and I was simply amazed. Your ability is marvelous. I have to tell you, I myself am extremely close to my Bubbe and Zaidy, and I love them very much. They teach me tradition to pass on to my children and I really enjoy spending time helping my Bubbe in the kitchen. Seeing you teach how to prepare the traditional foods I am so familiar with and the dedication and love your grandchild Avrum has for you, has warmed and touched my heart. I showed some of the shows to the Yiddish club and they really enjoyed it. I’m thinking about using one of your recipes and have the club make something an hand it out to the school at lunch. I want to wish you all the best and a healthy, happy, long life to you and your family, as well as a Gut Yantev this coming Shavuos. May you be blessed and may your traditions pass down and stay alive.

Zay Gezunt,

Matthew

Your email is a delight.to read.

Avrom and I worked the whole day today updating the recipes so that they will be easily understood by especially young people so that they can keep the familiarity of traditional recipes and tastes ongoing.

We are very proud of you for a young man of your age to take the lead in your school to familiarize your peers who probably are not as familiar to the Yiddish culture as you are.

It is a mitzvah.

We want to wish you and your family a healthy and joyous Shavuos.

You’re doing great Avrom, already. The show is so refreshing because it’s real and natural as well as helpful. Proves you don’t have to be a movie star to be a star.

Thanks for the compliment. It gives me great encouragement to continue.

My mouth was watering watching this.

Your bubbe is adorable in this video. My mouth was watering watching this. My grandmother used to make meatballs very similar, but she died 4 years ago and I haven’t had them since. Could I please have the recipe for the sweet and sour meatballs? I would love to serve them at my Channukah party   next weekend. Thank you!

Best,

This is fabulous.

This is fabulous. You and I share the tradition of capturing our grandmothers and their chicken soup recipes. Mine is Italian, but same difference.

Italian and Jewish families are very food conscious. When someone walks into the house the first thing we grandmothers always ask “Are you hungry?” Your video is delightful. No matter how we cook chicken soup. It is always a comfort food.

I think this is the best show I have seen on the internet, or anywhere.

July 2nd, 2008 · No Comments · Emails

I think this is the best show I have seen on the internet, or anywhere. I hope the food network decides to pick up the show! I’m going to write to them.

In any case, I have such wonderful memories of my Bubbe and Zedah and both of them cooking for me when I visited on Shabbos. They owned nad operated a candy store here in Flushing NY and so had little time to cook, except for Shabbos so…..I have wonderful memories.

I especially like the healthy way you prepare your recipes. I can still remember the ever-present jar of chicken fat that was in the refrigerator. By today’s standard, it would have probably killed 1/2 of your audience! So I’m glad that you have slimmed down the recipies, with no change i the taste.

Shalom and love from us here in Flushing

We want to thank you very much for your email and the wonderful memories that you have of your grandparents.
